Silver products, whether they are made of pure silver or sterling silver have a tendency to tarnish due to the chemical reaction between the metal and the air. Although Art Clay Silver tarnishes slower than sterling silver, a piece made of the Slow Tarnish type tarnishes slower still than other AC Silver products. Pieces can maintain their shine even longer with regular jewellery cleaning. Art Clay Silver ST remains 99% fine Silver after firing. The series comes in three types (block, paste, and syringe), which behave in the same ways as the corresponding products in other series before firing, although firing times and temperatures may be different to other types of Art Clay (800 for 30 minutes).
