The Lyons Mezzotint Rockers are essential tools for achieving a uniform grain on metal plates, using a rocking motion to create thousands of tiny burrs.
With a mezzotint rocker burrs are made in a copper or zinc plate by moving the mezzotint rocker zigzag across the plate, and in several directions. By working the plate everywhere in this way, you can print a deep velvet black, which is not possible in any other way.
