Detailed description

High-quality gelcoat at an affordable price, formulated for the production of artifacts intended for painting.

Key features

  • Artifacts produced with P-22 are easily sandable, have low polymerization shrinkage, which protects against the consequences of possible excesses in thickness such as cracks and detachments, and a low tendency to form microporosity.
  • The particular polymerization also prevents wrinkles (so-called "crow's feet") in case of low-thickness applications.
  • Its low cost and medium characteristics make it suitable for special applications such as finishing.
  • It has low UV resistance.
  • It is generally applied on the mold, as is, in 2 coats.
  • It can also be applied in a positive form, thinned with a short-haired roller in 2 coats: in the second coat, the Paraffin Solution (code F000029) should be added.

Yield

  • With a brush as is: about 500 g/m².
  • With a short-haired roller, thinned 12%: 200-220 g/m² per coat.

Product preparation

  • Dose the MEKP catalyst between 0.7 and 2% and mix well. (In the absence of the MEKP catalyst, a 50% Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide can be used.)
  • Dilute with acetone when necessary.

Thinning

  • On the mold: with a brush as is, with a short-haired roller, from 8 to 12%.
  • In a positive form, with a short-haired roller, from 8 to 12%.

Application Method

  • Brush or short nap roller.
  • Brush application should be applied as is. A slight dilution is allowed.
  • When using a short nap roller, the product should be applied thinly to promote proper acetone evaporation. Move the roller a few seconds away from the first application.
  • For mold processing, a minimum thickness of 350 µm and a maximum total of 700 are recommended. The application method for this processing is 1 or 2 coats with the product as is or 2 or 3 coats with an 8-12% dilution using a roller.
  • WARNING: Apply one coat on top of the other within a maximum of 24 hours.
  • Late applications prevent adhesion.
  • If unable to comply with this indication, it is best to let it harden well, sand it lightly, and apply the next coat.

Use of the PARAFFIN SOLUTION

Only in the final coat at 4%.

Surface Preparation

  • A release agent or multiple release agents should be applied to the mold.
  • If the mold is made of polyester fiberglass or another rigid painted material, it is recommended to use POLIVINOL + waxy release agent Lubrisil Cera
  • For existing structures to be repainted, a thorough cleaning and then sanding should be performed to remove a light layer of existing material.

After sanding

  • If the resulting surface is still gelcoat, apply P22 directly without any need for primer,
  • If the resulting surface is fiberglass, first apply a primer to achieve complete porosity closure and fiberglass consolidation.
  • The most suitable primer is DURALOID 7001.

On newly created fiberglass

  • Within 12-24 hours of creation (depending on the type of resin), apply P22 directly,
  • After that time, lightly sand the fiberglass before applying P22.

Stability

1 year if stored in the original closed containers, at temperatures between 15°C and 25°C, away from open flames, heat sources, and not exposed to light.

Warnings

Do not use at temperatures below 8-10°C.
Do not use beyond the working time, after which, in case of increased viscosity, solvent should not be added to increase the product's life.

Safety Recommendations

  • Wear a mask, gloves, and protective goggles during mixing and application.
  • Clean rollers and tools with solvent immediately after work is finished.
  • Suitable solvents: Acetone, Nitro diluent.
  • Do not dispose of residues and washing solvents in sewers.
  • Dispose of washing solvents and empty packaging contaminated by products at an authorized recovery site.
  • For more safety information, read the safety data sheet for each component carefully.
