Detailed description

Prometheus Bronze Clay is a bronze-based metal clay composed of very fine metal particles mixed with an organic binder, formulated nickel free. After firing, the binder burns away completely, leaving a solid bronze metal object.

Main features

  • Completely nickel free
  • High percentage of ultra-fine bronze particles
  • Workable like ceramic or polymer clay
  • Ideal for jewellery, micromodelling and decorative objects

Paste version

  • Can be shaped by hand
  • Carved and engraved
  • Cut with precision tools
  • Used with silicone moulds or textures
  • Mixed with water to create a brushable cream

Syringe version

  • Supplied with 3 interchangeable tips
  • Perfect for fine decorative lines and filigree
  • Allows creation of hollow 3D structures
  • Suitable for precise assembly work

After drying and firing according to technical specifications, the piece can be finished by sanding, polishing or patinating.

How to use

Firing method

With Activated Carbon (recommended)

  1. Step 1: place the dry piece on a stainless steel mesh, insert into a cold kiln and heat to 500 °C for 15 minutes. Allow to cool.
  2. Step 2: place approximately 3 cm of activated carbon at the bottom of a steel container, position the pieces at least 1.5 cm apart and fully cover with carbon. Insert into a preheated kiln at 820 °C and fire for 60 minutes. Allow to cool inside the kiln.

On open mesh in kiln

  • Place pieces on a stainless steel mesh in a kiln preheated to 820 °C.
  • Close the door and wait until the kiln returns to temperature, then fire for 30 minutes.
  • Allow pieces to cool inside the kiln until the temperature has significantly decreased.
  • Remove using high-temperature resistant tools and quench in warm water with pickle to remove most oxidation.
  • Wear a mask to avoid inhaling vapours.

With torch

This method is complex and not recommended for inexperienced users, as oxidation occurs rapidly in air and the risk of damaging the piece is high.

Shrinkage: 12–13%
