Detailed description

Thompson Enamels for COE90 Glass (Bullseye/Artista)

  • The 7000 and 8000 series of Thompson enamels are the perfect choice for those who want to use enamels on COE90 glass.
  • The 7000 and 8000 series enamels have an expansion coefficient that fits both COE 90 glass, such as Bullseye and Artista.

How to apply Thompson enamels on glass

  • Enamels are available in standard 80 mesh size, which is ideal for glass fusion.
  • To apply the enamels on glass, use a sieve to obtain a slightly heavier coat for solid colored areas.
  • Stencils can also be used, and the enamel can be wet with water for better adhesion.

Glass Enamel Fusing

  • After applying the enamel to a piece of glass, the work is placed onto a kiln shelf or on kiln paper or ceramic or coated metal mold for slumping.
  • It is placed into the kiln at room temperature, and a firing schedule appropriate for the size and thickness of the glass should be consulted.
  • The temperature needs to climb slowly to around 370°C.
  • After reaching that temperature, it can go up a little faster until it reaches the maturation temperature.
  • For both window glass and stained glass, we suggest 780°C (although depending on the desired result, the temperature could range between 700 to 815°C).
  • The temperature is then allowed to cool down to 480 to 540°C.
  • It is held there for at least 1/2 hour to allow stresses in the glass to be relieved.
  • The power is turned off, and the temperature is allowed to go back to room temperature before the ware is removed.

Using Thompson enamels of the 7000 and 8000 series on Bullseye and Artista glass is a great way to create stunning glass pieces that are both durable and beautiful.
