• Thompson 9000 series enamels are the perfect choice for those who want to use 104 COE glass for enameling.
• The 9000 series enamels have an expansion range that fits both COE 104 glass (Murano / Moretti) and copper.

How to apply Thompson enamels on glass

• These enamels come in standard grit 80 mesh, which is ideal for glass fusing.
• To apply the enamels on glass, use a sifter to obtain a slightly heavier coat for solid colored areas.
• Stencils may also be used, and the enamel can be wet with water for better adhesion.

Firing Glass Enamels

• After applying the enamel to a glass piece, the work is placed onto a kiln shelf or on kiln paper or ceramic or coated metal mold for slumping.
• It is placed into the kiln at room temperature, and a firing schedule appropriate for the size and thickness of the glass should be consulted.
• The temperature needs to climb at a specific rate to above 370°C.
• After reaching that temperature, it can go up a little faster until it reaches the maturation temperature.
• For both window glass and stained glass, we suggest 780°C (although depending on the desired result, the temperature could range between 700 to 815°C).
• The temperature is then allowed to cool down to 480 to 540°C.
• It is held there for at least 1/2 hour to allow stresses in the glass to be relieved.
• The power is turned off, and the temperature is allowed to go back to room temperature before the ware is removed.
